Corruption’s influence on lack of vital resources to world’s poor and Public Education Network

News from Around the World:

A report from Transparency International cited poor management, corruption, graft and the “looking-the-other-way” of both third-world government and first-world corporations as reasons why, for example, eleven million children under the age of five die every year from lack of primary resources like clean water.

News you can use:

Public educators: I know that when I began teaching, I found myself wondering what I was doing a LOT of the time. Sometimes the promised resources and leaders just either were not there or were not enough (after all, even veteran teachers and coaches can be overwhelmed at times, certainly in the urban setting where the turn-over rate is so high). So I eventually had to ally myself with other resources. A cohort class that I took introduced me to the Public Education Network (PEN). I found their weekly PEN Newsblasts to be a resource in often surprising studies, theories, news, updates, etc. on education that I would have trouble finding otherwise. And now they’re gearing up for their annual conference in November. It may be a bit pricey for my tastes, but it may also be worth checking out.
